Get a grip Eon

I have already done my bit to promote my choice for the next James Bond, if you are starting over, Clive Owen. You obviously agreed but he turned you down.

As I sift through all the rumors and interviews about the casting & approach in next Bond film "Casino Royale" I must give my current take on what's happening.

My choice, Clive Owen, was offered the role to restart the franchise but because the producers of the most successful film series of all time are too cheap to give him (or Connery or...or...) a piece of the action, so he turned them down.

Now they are in a major quandry.

There is really no suitable young candidate left to begin the franchise again, ala "Batman Begins". Almost everyone in the rumor mill (Daniel Craig, Henry Cavill, Sam Worthington and Goran Visnjic) is too baby faced except Daniel Craig and Goran Visnjic and those choices would kill the "begins again" concept, they look too old.

Hugh Grant has said he would do his best Roger Moore impersonation if you hire him. In that case, just go get Michael Myers.

I still get the heebie jeebies when I recall Roger's Bond lifting Jaws with an electro magnet...just like Dean Martin as Matt Helm lifted the guy with the metal plate in his head with one a decade before. What the hell were you thinking guys?

Realizing this, Sony, who just bought MGM, wants to play it safe & bring Brosnan back. There's too many guaranteed bucks to be made there to risk it. After all they just spent a bundle to become your partners.

Ok kids, your only options right now are Owen/Brosnan, so make up your mind. Give Owen what he wants or bring back Pierce for one more outing, make some bucks for Sony & take two more years to find a new Bond.

By the way, If you "begin Bond again" you can't have Judi Dench & John Cleese, or anyone associated with the "old series" in the film. It won't fly with the built in audience population you have in tow, for continuity purposes.

Speaking of bringing back Ms. Dench in a "Begins Again" Bond. Quit screwing with continuity. Like bringing a dead Bond ally back as Blofeld. (Charles Grey.."You Only Live Twice" & "Diamonds Are Forever")

You don't want to piss off the people who made "Die Another Day" the biggest grossing film in Bond history. If you do they won't come back. Which is a shame. It's not often you have the opportunity to use such great talents as Ms. Dench & Mr. Cleese. I would hate to see them replaced.

If you are that much in disagreement, bring back Brosnan for his swan song, meet your deadline and set up the new beginning of Bond at the end of his final film.

In fact, while I'm venting, you should have paid Connery's price & had him do "On Her Majesy's Secret Service". A great film, even with an imposter as Bond. Imagine your box office with Connery & Diana Rigg.

With that great script, I'm smelling Oscar nominations for both of them. You guys blew it there.

Ok kids, you know how I feel so make your decision.

I've been a Bond fan since "Doctor No". I'll be there for "Casino Royale", but if I don't walk out feeling taller, invincible and I'm humming the Bond theme while I'm driving my Honda-Aston Martin, home....well, what I mean is, if you screw it up, I won't be back.

I'll be joining my buds for those Spike TV rerun parties & we will lament the death of our favorite cinematic character and move on.
